December 2020- Present
A first comprehensive exercise on evaluating and analysing the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as part of the Health Management Information System (HMIS). The quality issues in the dataset have resulted in its limited usage in academic discourse, despite the high-frequency of the data release. We have four broad focus areas: antenatal care, nature of delivery, child immunization and childhood diseases. Notwithstanding the data quality issues, the dataset has valuable insights to offer for select indicators under the identified focus areas. The improved granularity of the data has made it amenable to advanced spatial analysis; and the insights based on latter are one of the key contributions of the group so far. The project will be an important milestone in improving the dialogue surrounding the usage of the database to inform administrative decision making as well the need for improved reporting standards of the MIS overall.
